Since 1928, we’ve been serving the lake community.

Here’s (some of) what we do.

Install safety markers

Every spring, volunteers drop in safety markers at points across the lake so that all boaters can safely avoid any obstacles. We then remove them in the fall.

Protect the loons.

Our loons are one of our treasures. In 2021, we had 17 adults and one baby. (Sadly, we also lost two adults that summer; one to lead poisoning and one to trauma from a boat). We monitor the loon population and work to ensure their safety.

Monitor water quality.

Twice a month, from May to October, volunteers monitor the health of our water, testing various different elements to create a full picture of how it's doing.

Host social events.

A big part of a thriving lake is a thriving lake community. We host multiple social events per season, including our annual meeting (last year at Skowhegan School of Art), a regular August social, and pop-ups (last year’s Bigelow Brewery pop-up was hopping).

Support road health.

With easy changes, our camp roads can be designed to make sure that runoff doesn’t end up in the lake. Our roads team works with you and your neighbors to identify whether changes could help and recommend simple adjustments.

Keep invasive plants out.

Invasive plants are a big problem for some nearby lakes. To make sure they don’t become a problem for us, we run a Courtesy Boat Inspection program at the main landing (say hi to Alan if you see him!) and run plant paddles every summer where residents look for invasive plants.

Protect the watershed.

The watershed is the acreage around the lake (extending out a few miles). We’re supporting the protection and health of the watershed area to ensure the lake is always healthy.
