Volunteer opportunities: is this you?

Here’s the help we need in the summer of 2023:

If any of these interest you, or you’d like to contribute in another way, reach out to hello@wesserunsett.org :

  • Print newsletter editor / coordinator — Edit and curate the annual print newsletter; coordinate with printer in Waterville who prints and mails.

  • Editor of a regular digital newsletter — Send out regular email updates to the lake community throughout the summer (~2-4 over the summer)

  • Database/tech expert — Help automate database input so we have one source of truth and get our online newsletter linked to the web (automatically)

  • Web editor — Keep the website up-to-date with current, relevant information for the lake community

  • Swag lead — Take over ordering and coordinating T-shirt sales (we’re set up with a printer/designer already) and purchasing other swag, like stickers

  • Volunteer coordinator — Coordinate with all committee leads to identify volunteer needs and match new volunteers to them

  • Social events lead — Lead social events with a team; identify the place to have it, format, etc.

  • Social events helpers — Support preparation, setup, takedown, and advertising for social events

  • Loon Lead(s) — Become an advocate for the loons of the lake; learn what they need to thrive, raise awareness around the lake community of those needs

  • Archivist — Help digitize our rich history of data about the lake’s health

  • Coordinator(s) for birding hotspots — TBC

  • Raffle leader — Last year we raised around $6000 through a cash raffle. We’ve done all the legwork to make that an annual event. Step in and run this year’s event.

  • Lake hazard buoy marker lead— Help to put in and take out the lake hazard buoy markers.

  • Treasurer — After ~20 years of service, Chip Button is retiring as treasurer of LWA. Step in and take over this important role in managing our accounts.

  • Backup water quality monitors — Sign up to help John Bonsall with the biweekly monitoring of our lake water quality. This is a ~30 minute regular boat outing to test the water.

Volunteers have supported the lake’s health for generations. Check out this article from 1978 in the Morning Sentinel, showing volunteers monitoring the lake. (Thanks to all the volunteers for their efforts over many years!)
